Snakehead: A Slimy Fish Out of Water

Snakeheads are no ordinary fish. They can live for days out of the water. They're elongated, with a small, flat head and extensive top and bottom fins. The mucus they exude would put a slug to shame.
At least two years before the discovery of anorthern snakehead in a Crofton pond in 2002, the exotic, predatory fish from East Asia was already colonizing the Potomac River, says John Odenkirk, a Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries biologist.
