Fly Product: Review of 'Tales From the Tacklebox'
Jason Whiteley contacted me about a month an a half ago asking if I could check out his new book series "Tales from the Tacklebox", books about adventures from the perspective of lures. If he had contacted me a year ago I would have blown it off and just taken a pass but now, with a 7 month old, I thought it would be perfect. Not only was I able to review another fishing related product, but further introduce fishing into my daughters life at an early age, I was all for it.
With a 7 month olds attention span only but about 5 minutes max, we weren't really able to read the whole book in one sitting. Similar to the series of Olive the Wooly Bugger, these books are about the travels and adventures of fishing lures. The book Jason sent me is called "Escape from the Crooked Tree", the first book in the series. So I don't ruin the story of this book, I'll talk in general about the adventures of Mini-Torpy aka MT and his tackle box friends. The family thats owns the tackle box go out for a day on the water and use the different lures for different fish. The fish are portrayed as the villain characters of the book and the lures, the heroes.
Throughout the book, there is excitement as the lures set their hooks into the lips of some big fish. The overall strategy is to get the fish and get back to the boat. The story is told as if the lures are responsible for "luring" the fish and play an active role in getting them to bite the hooks. As the lures fight for the prized fish to bite them, they take risks in getting snagged or even lost. Captain Torpy, one of the lures, is responsible for organizing the lures and making the plan as to how to catch fish or strategically work as team. The Crooked Tree in this book is another obstacle that any bass fisherman hold fish, so as the family begins to cast at the tree for big fish, they risk the lures lives making for an awesome story of friendship, adventure, and exhilarating fishing!
You can check out Jason and Tales from the Tacklebox at www.tackleboxtales.com. With the great storyline written by Jason and great illustration by Michael Koch, you cant go wrong if your looking for a book for your little fisherperson. The book is written for 4-8 year olds but is enjoyable for anyone who's ever fished. You can get this book for only $23.99 on Amazon and it was even featured on Fish Itch! Check it out now!
