Trip Report: Patapsco River at Daniel's Dam

So Zach and I decided kinda last minute to take a trip out to the Patapsco last weekend for more of a scouting session than a trip but of course we brought all our gear (I mean, they did just dump 2,000 trout in there). After hopping out and checking out the area, we did decide to wader-up and hop in despite the wind gusts and outside temps of around 20 degrees F (ok, thats kinda cold for Maryland).

We immediately noticed that the water was amazingly clear for a Central Maryland trout stream (and one guy we ran into who regularly fishes the stream said it was actually "gnarly today", my kind of guy). We were pretty mesmerized by the speed of the water and depth. There were some holes that probably got to around 8 feet deep, widow makers. The best part of these holes is that you could see the bottom.

We managed to move down stream some where we ran into a few guys who had just missed "a 16" Brown Trout". We decided to walk downstream a bit and thats when we spotted about 5 12"+ Paolmino Rainbows...just sitting there waiting to be caught. We'll, we threw everything at them and they got the best of us. I was able to get a few follows on a White Zonker but thats about it. Sucks, still haven't gotten my trout on in 2012...tricky fuckers.

Anywho, we had a great scout day and really got to take in some natural beauty of our home state (and waters within 30 minutes of us). We did some more scouting on a new area even closer to us and...well, lets just say, Fly Fishing Bucket List #17 may be knocked off sooner than later. You hear that, we're comin for ya, you "Urban Bonefish" you!

Skunked and tired, we called it early. But I'm tying up some new flies for the weekend hoping that moving into our new house doesn't take the whole weekend, hoping... Yea, thats right, we became homeowners today, super stoked about it. I'm really most excited to finally have my very own "tying room". Check and respect the pictures and keep your eyes out for some upcoming action.

Boom...Morgan
